Re: Gulf of Mexico in June/July

Get a dinghy, no liferaft. The dinghy will be great for going ashore. When on the beach you may avoid venturing inland lest the horseflies will find you and chase you back to the water.

Yeah, you dont need a life raft for putting around MS Sound, but a dinghy will be almost essential.

Thanks for all of the advise. I kind of figured that a dinghy would be better, but with my limited experience, I welcome any help I can get.

But, besides the pic of the killer water spout, I am pretty stoked at the thought of June/July in the MS sound.

Fun area! Not many marinas to duck into, so plan ahead as much as you can. Generally only convective afternoon thunderstorms. Wind will swing out of the north at night that time of year, which combined with the sharp depth gradients may leave you thumping bottom in the night.

Thanks to all of you for the help. Now all I have to do is wait, its going to kill me. If there is any more wisdom anyone can share it would be great. However, I think I will give it a shot.
