In what may be regarded as long overdue some of the best cruising waters in NSW may finally be unlocked to deep draft vessels with Lake Macquarie to be dredged again!

How deep is deep?



The size of sailing dinghys is getting rediculous.

Obviously in central california it's deeper than mid north coast NSW

After I got hassled at that wharf at Swansea I saw an article about the same in the window of a fish and chip shop down the road. Less an overzealous police officer that wharf is a great place to pull up and rip down the supermarkets or cheap bottle shop a few hundred metres away. You can also get fast and free visitors wireless internet at the library at the far southern end of the street. It is nice to have the couple of courtesy boys either side of the bridge. This is just at the "gate way" of a good protected cruising ground, which is a lot friendlier than the nearby commercial harbour of Newcastle.

The only thing that does worry me is how much sand is building up along the coast between here and Newcastle. It is almost as if they need some sort of permanent dredge?

I was just looking at Google maps for the entrance to Maquarie harbour and a sail vessel doesn't look like it can get under the bridge, The bridge is too low,
Thats at the Entrance,

Swasea looks like parkland.

Hahahahahaha Google doesn't show the sides of bridges,

You can only look along the road for a hump meaning it has clearance for masts,
Its a shame they dont have side images, Would make planning easier,

The Hawksbury River for instance,

We watch the bridge and boats going through from our apartment balcony. We're renting right on the channel. Kinda nice while we kill time between the sale of the house and the sale of the business.

I remember a story in the late 80's with a boat safely tucked away on the lake whilst the owners went home, I think to the US. They ended up being gone for just over a year.

By the time they returned the entrance had silted up and boat ended up being trucked out.

Hurry back Jim.

Crikeys, mate...

I think that method would spill the wine. Ann would never go for it.

However, some of the local race boats have been dragged sideways across the shallow bit (very soft sand) to get to distant starting lines. We touched a couple of times going in last April, and have been wondering just what was going on. I hope that they get their thumbs out and start dredging ASAP!

Meanwhile, Ann's knees are coming along pretty well, and we hope to be back sometime like early November. Can't wait... the Excited States are getting to me!
