The only economic sense that makes is if the objective is to inconvenience the public, not save money.
It's really that simple isn't it?
When the answers obvious, why ignore it?
Increase funding to the F35 program will solve it, don't worry.
Cheers,
Mac

Thank you petulant schoolboys in DC.
Of course boaters will impacted. Did anyone expect them to be exempt or is this just an attempt to disguise a political thread as being about boating?

Yes, I was. I feel that I can get away with using that particular piece of non-pc terminology in a tongue-in-cheek sort of way since I have a bit of that bloodline flowing in my veins.

My grandfather used to brag that his ancestors came over on the Mayflower. My grandmother would then take him down a notch by reminding him that her ancestors were there to greet them when they arrived.

That's a fair question. My point in starting this thread was to disseminate information relevant to boaters. But I certainly did not foresee how this would play out so yes I did consider us "exempt". About 17% of the fed govt is "shutdown" yet we are seeing how far reaching is the impact on certain user groups. I

As for your "of course...", did you imagine this "shutdown" would result in private business' being ordered to close, as example of the myriad absurdities brought about by so-called leaders acting like bratty school boys? I think it reasonable to believe we would be "exempt" from the effects of a partial and temporary halt in services. The effects have gone far beyond that and that is attributed to the boorish and asinine manipulations of petulant elected politicians. So, the effects are political in nature and not because of the govt not being funded. After all, certain facilities remain open but only to a select few. And expenditures have increased above normal staffing in order to blockade the general public from many venues and facilities.

I still would like this thread to be used to inform users. I hadn't meant to make this a political statement. But now that cannot be denied because of how this has progressed.

Re: Govt Shutdown Impact on Boaters

An old friend printed and distributed bumper stickers every election year, that said

"Throw the rascals out !"

Obviously anyone who objected was one of the Rascals.

I wonder where I can get some today.

Lots of people out on their boats . Guess they are not working. Yes we are effected. Can't take the kids out for our favorite hikes. People I know are not selling goods that are tied to tourism. Can't visit my dad's grave .
I am okay . The real effect for US boaters is long term in how Heath care gets managed. I would love universal care. My tax dollars pay for nih and other health initiatives, studies and developments. If you pay US taxes you are paying into this health initiative. We already subsidize health care but limit who can access this. That's wrong.. Let's work out universal health coverage and reduce the deficit.

Of all the entitlement pay outs health care efficient management should be top priority . There are some huge mismanagement issues with entitlement. I am convinced these elected party guys have no idea about best practice in management

Strictly to inflict maximum apparent political pain, nothing more.
People with a brain are seeing through it. Finally.

SM, the last federal shutdown was the same. Government staffers are applying the letter of the law, no more and no less.

There's ONE reason why the GOP is fighting so hard against Obamacare: as piecemeal as it is, once it's implemented and and working, people are still gonna LIKE having it, it will be untouchable, and the the "small-government" movement will be set back decades.

NHC Active Tropical Cyclones

There is a little note across the top of the page about this page being exempt from the shutdown.
This one is also still up & running: Navy/NRL TC_PAGES Page
World-wide cyclone/hurricane/typhoon data.

Found it to be absolutely spot-on for cyclones the past three years, out here below the equator.

There is something wrong with the way politics are in the US. But running is like throwing in the towel. I love adventure but I'm no coward. People make the changes. In history, they always have.
