Ya, the CG SAR guys are pretty cool. What's strange about this storey though is that another Tall Ship has been abandoned. What's going on onboard these ships? The Concordia, the Bounty and now this? Tall ships didn't use to get into serious trouble like this as frequently as they are now. It makes you wonder what kind of safety procedures are on board these vessels.

Well 9 nine people on a tall ship doesn't seem much of a crew.

Now, if our government would only fund the Coast Guard. The average age of its ships approaches 40 years and it is laying up boats because it cannot afford repairs. But we do fund billions in naval construction that the USN doesn't even want.

I agree.

Just today I was looking at the USCG cutters and saw that the High Endurance cutters were built in the 1960s! Getting LONG in the tooth.

Of course there are others, like the Medium Endurance Cutters that are more recent. But, the age of the largest of the fleet surprised me.

Well, she was pretty small, but she travelled in the Tall Ship circuit.

I know, but I've seen her at several tall ship festivals, being paid by the municipality to do that kind of work. It's the same general crowd of people as tall ships.
