good safe boat storage out of water southeast Florida

Hello
My husband and I live in Los Angles, we bought a sailboat and are cruising for six months , Florida keys and then Bahamas .

We want to store 35 ft sailboat in the hard in Florida Miami to fort pierce , for 6-8 months , starting in July,

We do not know the area well so any advise would be great, we can go about anywhere because we don't need to be near the boat

Would like safe place ( hurricanes), of course good price as well

Thanks

In the Ft Pierce area there are two yards. Higher priced, with better security etc. Is Harbortown Marina. Lower prices is Riverside Marina. Both less expensive than marinas further south.

Harbortown seems secure. DO NOT ask them to do any work though.

We used Indiantown. Very good service - they really knew what they were doing with the travel left and jack stands. Plus, you get the advantage of a 20 mile motor through freshwater to get there . . . so that cleans all the salt out of your motor, thru hulls, cutlass bearing, etc.

Price wasn't cheap (nothing is, right?), but MUCH more reasonable than a place directly on the ICW. And, we felt they were significantly more protected from storm/hurricane damage being more inland.

Very happy with their service - would definitely use again.

Is Crackerboy an option for long term storage in FP?

Cracker Boy Ft Pierce has done long term. The yard fee is $2.00 a foot while you’re working on the boat. Don’t know the storage fee. Ask for Woody or Cynthia. Not all areas have power so ask. Russ

I just looked it up and their website is saying $7.50/ft. That's $300/month for a 40 ft boat. That seems pretty "cheap" to me compared to some of the places I was seeing; Gateway Marina lists $13/ft for instance.

Though I admittedly don't really know the prices at but a few places that I've looked at.

No place in Florida "safe" from hurricanes. Indiantown Marina is probably best, as others mentioned. Make sure you have no insurance issues being in Fla during hurricane season???. Take a few days and go to Brunswick, Ga.

Re: good safe boat storage out of water southeast Florida

Indiantown can take some getting to (canal, draft, not near major airports) but it keeps getting praise. "Inland" Florida seems to be less hurricane prone than the coasts, so that's a bonus even if inconvenient to reach.

I wouldn't even think about anything south of West Palm Beach (or in WPB) if price is any kind of concern.

Regardless of location, you may want to make sure there are extra jack stands, hurricane tie-down anchors, and the boat is "fortified" before you leave it. And well ventilated, i.e. with solar fans. Anything that is not kept ventilated in Florida becomes a huge petri dish.

Re: good safe boat storage out of water southeast Florida

I’ve used Riverside in Ft Pierce for 20 yrs and I’ve never had a security problem. Numerous people live aboard there on the hard and they keep an eye on everything. I usually buy the one nearest me a monthly case of beer and they watch my boat closely.
The boat hauling crew and the welding fabrication team do an excellent job. This marina has been family owned and operated for 40 plus years.
