GICW East Bay near Panama City, can sail boat get in?

Hi! I'd like to visit a friend of mine in East bay near Panama City, FL. I found that the Tyndall-Dupont bridge has only 50' clearance, so can't enter from west side, I wonder can I enter from Gulf County Canal or Apalachicola River, go west and into East Bay? Has any sailboat taken that route before?

Go that way all the time. If you are coming offshore from the South just watch out for Cape San Blas. Can turn pretty nasty under the wrong conditions. If you come through Aplach you avoid that area and see some Florida wilderness.

Dupont bridge is probably a little over 50 ft but not much.

If you are planning on the Gulf County Canal spend a few days seeing St Joe Bay another FL gem

Government cut coming into Apalach Bay is plenty deep in the pass but is subject to shoaling on the inside. Might give Scipio Creek Marina a call for current conditions (just haven't been that way in a while). East Pass down by Dog Island and Carrabelle is reliable just adds a trip down the Bay. Shipping Cove just East of this pass is a good place to stop for a rest (in good weather) if you have overnighted from Tarpon Springs.

Stop and spend some time in Apalachicola for a different Florida. Municipal marina probably good for 4.5 ft or Scipio Creek for anything reasonable. Also anchor on the East side of the River just north of the bridge (maybe 1/4 mile). Good sand holding over near the marsh and take the dink into Muni Marina. Not your typical anchorage (wide place in a river) but have spent many night hanging on the hook here. Just be sure of your ground tackle, bouncing around that bridge in the middle of the night would probably not be fun.
