Getting Started

Hello, all. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, so if it isn't, please forgive me.

I'm interested in getting a boat in the future when finances allow (I'm getting ready for a big move and a home purchase at the moment), and I'd like to sail quite extensively. My question is, where should I begin? I know only a very little about boats (but I've been on enough that sea sickness won't be a factor for either me or my wife)

My goal is, ultimately, to live on a sailboat. That's likely a few years away, but I'd like to know what the smartest route would be to achieving that goal.

Thanks in advance!

Hello and welcome,

You are in the correct place. Someone new to sailing posts this query nearly everyday. There are lots of folks who will give you lots of advice on the subject...most of it is really good.
Check in to this thread in the next few hours (days) and you will see what I mean. For my two cents... start reading magazines...you may not understand the terminology, etc but will quickly catch on. Welcome again!!

I would say skip the house and go directly to the boat. You will have to get rid of the house before you go cruising, so you can eliminate that problem by skipping the house entirely.

I never had a house until I completed my circumnavigation, and I wish I was rid of the house as it is a formidable anchor.
