Re: FREE, or close to free!

Thank you so much for the info on the Columbia 28. Sounds like a good boat at a great price for sure. I am still trying to find a bit bigger boat and have had several offers on trading my Skipper 20 to people wanting a smaller boat. I really like the little Skipper and its a fine little vessel but just a bit small to spend the season on sailing around the Gulf of Mexico but would be perfect for all the shallow places in the intracoastal and the Keys too! Again, Thanks much Thomm and Scout for your sharing this thread with me! May GOD Bless you.

Be sure to check those keel bolts on that 28! Probably need to replace them by now.

Re: FREE, or close to free!

Some recent offerings from southern Lake Michigan:
https://chicago.craigslist.org/nwi/b...872187684.html
6k, alberg 30, looks like it’s been getting used in a good way, clean, hood looking kit

https://chicago.craigslist.org/nch/b...870523648.html

26’ 1961 polaris $2.5k
Looks trailerable. Wood mast is a turnoff for me but I’ll admit it’s a looker. A non-garbage boat at a garbage boat price.

https://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/b...869901145.html

McGregor 26x 1999, $6.5k
Not my cuppa tea, but usually the “X” series is priced much higher. Comes w 50hp outboard. The “X” is the one that can push near 20 kts under motor with the mast down and water ballast let out.
Like I said, not my thing, makes my Catalina rigging look heavy-duty, but the price is right.

https://chicago.craigslist.org/nwi/b...862505147.html
72 Pearson 26’ $4.5k
This one is my cuppa. Saw her on the craigslist last season- maybe amenable to sell cheap? Good shape, outboard over the transom, dry toilet... “bug out” boat.

That’s what I’m seeing here from private owners. Good hunting!

The Alberg 30 would be my choice.

For the get started cruising now for as little as possible dream, it’s a pretty good candidate. Surely she’ll sell shortly!

Lots of free boats popping up on Lake Ontario as "launch season" approaches and people don't want to pay for another year of ownership, docking, or storage.

Free Siren 17. Great little boat, super tough, super fun to sail. From the few pics posted, it looks like its all there. Hopefully the sails are stowed safely below.

Re: FREE, or close to free!

This little O'Day looks absolutely beautiful. The asking price just about covers the new 5hp outboard (in a well), included. Although its smaller than I'm hoping to buy for myself, it really catches my eye. I wish more boats for sale looked this good. Seriously considering it for myself. Its just looks like a great little sailboat to have fun sailing. Its $2000 (cdn) = $1500 usd. Located near Toronto Canada on Lake Ontario.

https://www.kijiji.ca/v-sailboat/oak...ationFlag=true

https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/tempest-23-oday

From the ad:

Rebuilt 23' O'Day Tempest Daysailer. Small Cabin, large cockpit. Immaculate condition. Great starter boat, great cottage boat. Very stable, very forgiving. Brand new 4 stroke outboard-lots of extras. Must be seen. $2000 OBO. Lying Oakville.

From an email from the owner/sellor:

It looks fantastic. The Paint job on the Hull is still immaculate, Deck has a few spots where there were scratches in the paint. It has a tiller extension, no auto helm (I mostly raced the boat), it has a tricolour masthead light and a forward range/deck light, but no vhf, no compass, no instruments. It's essential sailing-maximum contact, minimum technology. It has a battery and panel, so anything can be added. It has new cushions below, and the outboard is a 4 stroke Tahatsu 5 Long shaft in the well with an external tank. Engine has less than 1 hr on it. It has a stern ladder and everything on boat is harken. It has a ton of sails, none of them new, but still serviceable. Light 1, Heavy 1, 2 & jib. 2 mains, and a trip-radial chute. If you wanted to race it with the handicap it is almost unbeatable.

Now, there's a good catch.. a bargain IMO

Re: FREE, or close to free!

Came across this Hunter 22, note quite free, but seems to be a bargain at $2500.

and this Tanzer 22 looks nice too.
