Columbia stopped making the 24 in '64 or '65 I think, but there is a difference between the Glas Laminates boats from '62 to '67 and the later ('68 into 70's) Whittaker boats. While the earlier (Whittaker) ones were ok, I too, believe it or not, am only lukewarm on that vintage of Columbia, though I would bet they'll still take a beating better than many/most from the mid-70s. The larger ones seemed to have fared better, and there are still many of all sizes around, but then the 70s had issues for most boats anyway with the resin problems leading to blistering. Wow, I don't see a mess at all. You should see my boat! If anyone is in that area and looking, don't miss this one! If it goes for under 2K that is great IMO. If you are within 100 miles (maybe more!) and are looking for a good classic, it's a good choice. If I lived over there I'd be bidding on it!

Re: FREE, or close to free!

I meant the screwy legal conditions of these charity sales, basically sight unseen usually non-refundable deposit

The Alberg 30 is a beautiful boat. Atom Voyages or the guy behind it really does some nice work to those boats. Has a few videos up on YouTube. James Baldwin I think is his name, wish he lived closer to me.

Re: FREE, or close to free!

Love the Alberg. Back 5 years ago in search for new boat I got a little obsessed over one. Alas the purchase was not made. I have met James Baldwin. Good guy. Lives not far from me. Yes he did a complete refit of an A30 a few years ago. As I recall he glassed in an outboard well. Turned out nicely.

The Atomic 4 would probably scare some folks off but I miss one I had in a Hinterhoeller 28. I would replace the starter and upgrade to electronic ignition and be done with the A4.

Nice boat...

Not sure anyone else here looks on Copart. They are a clearing house for insurance boats and some charity's. Many of the sailboats go pretty cheap but pics tend to be almost non existent and bidding and inspection can be hard depending on state rules and how they guys at copart feel that day. Here is an example

Or a little trailer sailor

Re: FREE, or close to free!

Pretty opaque site. Most auctions require you to engage a licensed broker to bid for you. Many the auction results need "accepting" by the seller, others flagged no reserve.

Seems like a whole lot of boat for not much money, love the long keel but goodness that is an ugly boat.
