Well if he is Northport Bay he should be ok. It's pretty good holding even on a Danforth. Just watch that chafe! There are some spots where he can be somewhat protected from the northeast wind. Probably better to be at anchor too. I tried to get back to see my boat this morning here on Long Island and the roads were flooded two hours before high tide. This is going to be a nasty one! Of course we are on the "bad" side of Sandy.

Thanks for the photo's. I tried to get back to the boatyard where I left the dingy last night here on Long Island and the roads were already flooded two and half hours before high tide:
THE BIANKA LOG BLOG: HURRICANE SANDY: DAY TWO
The worst thing is the storm is not supposed to really kick up until this afternoon.

Re: Frankenstorm!

If you haven't already, go raise your lines up on your pilings! We face a lot of hurricanes here and that's one of the first things we do.

Thanks for the pics. It appears to me that if the 10-12 foot surge comes as forcast, most of the boats on stands are gonna float off loose.

Cheezewiz isn't food. What do you use it for? Plugging leaks?

I agree that I'd rather be anchored or moored than in a marina. I passed one hurricane in a slip and have weathered four at anchor or on a helical mooring. There is no question in my mind where I'd rather be, well other than a thousand miles away.

Not always the best idea up here in the Chesapeake.
If the wind comes from the north it blows the water out of the bay and we will have extreme low tides.
On the other hand you're spot on if we get it the other way. Then we'll also have the heavy rainfall coming down the rivers together with the push up the bay...
It's why we've stayed on board to adjust the lines as needed.

Re: Frankenstorm!

I put two lines on the piling, one high and one normal. Today was the first time I had to adjust them since the tide finally went out a bit. I just loosen one and tighten the other according to the tide. Now that the wind has shifted I'll probably need to check them every tide.

so far so good.
