Atoll, I'm thinking this poster is as you originally suggested, a troll. See the Contributions of Rebel Heart thread.

Also, well said, Sailing Cowboy.

Not blasphemy, just an understanding that Eric and Charlotte are members of this forum, would likely read the thread at some point, and kicking a guy when he's down is a really shitty thing to do.

I wish CF was as kind to others that pressed the red button. We've suddenly become mighty selective

Troll or not: it is how it is in 90% of cases. When you take a position without knowing all the facts, it's pretty wise to take one that has those odds than one with only 10% chance. Unless it turns out this case is in that 10%
I still think Eric made the right choice to abandon RH. I am not convinced they should try this again though.

To counter this "down with the d@m boat it's just cheap plastic" craziness: my wife would have kicked me back over the ships railing in to the water and told me to get my ass back aboard Jedi and sail her home. Women in my family have married a glove while their to-be husbands are out at sea (how many of you even know such a thing exists?!), nothing of that wimpy stuff.

I would abandon my boat when I believe my wife wouldn't be able to cope with it in the time I would be sailing the boat to safety. But when she says go and I believe she's fine, I would go regardless what; my soul is linked with this boat. We don't get seasick however and our boat can sail herself off-shore better than I can, and we have no sick kids.

People who read this and plan to sail away for the first time better take notice of what long time sailors like Mark, me and others write here. Only very few husband and wife teams are compatible with off-shore passaging. Most can't even do coastal sailing without killing their marriage or their boat; I see disasters all the time, hundreds of cases over the years. When you are not compatible then have fun in the Caribbean or other such places where you can still do pretty serious passages when you want, or take it easy with island hopping. We like both. Being a cruiser is a life style, not a sport or achievement. But you don't need to cross oceans for that life style. I could live without passages longer than a night or two, but I couldn't give up the life style and join the herd.

Here is how Dashew sails back to San Diego.

You guys gotta admit this is a pretty hard place to get along with everyone. It's not stars & smiles. There's still plenty of people here with no room for alternate opinions. Charlie may have just joined, but a few here are pretty quick to call him a troll for asking some basic questions and having a differing opinion. I mean most of America is not a huge fan of RH, and with the millions of unimpressed people maybe a few have legitimate concerns.

This tragedy is so very close to home for most of us, here, that the subject is highly charged. This happened to one of ours. With all the support and respect from CF members, the victims know we are deeply concerned and involved. With little personal news, we cannot help ourselves but to wonder why and how this happened. And to speculate and discuss ways we can avoid a similar fate.

There's a very good piece of advice. One I know myself to be true. It may be a factor in RHs case or it may not be. But only very few sailing couples succeed particularly on long passages.

Those that just overnight, are also cruisers and are " living the dream " too.

Mind you what an 80 foot custom 1.5 million dollar boat has to do with this is confusing , but nice video

Re: Forum Member's Boat and Daughter in Trouble off of Mexico

All this speculation has me inspired. Here's a few things I would like to know-

Did the PJ's enjoy their time at sea? Its hard for me to imagine what it would be like to for an average person to suddenly find themselves in the middle of sea on a small boat. Of course these guys are far from average and no strangers to adversity, but still I wonder.

I expect adaptability is a key requirement for their job, but I wonder if there is any chance they fell for the romance of the sea and would consider taking up cruising in the future? Seems like the kind that could get into it.

I am also curious about the big guy on the left in the photo. Is there any chance he got seasick? It's always the big guy who goes down first. (Just kidding!!!)

Lastly, what I really really want to know is which cheek is Eric getting his new tattoo on, Port or Starboard?

From Wikipedia-

"This tradition arose during the Vietnam War, at which point in time the most commonly used helicopter was the CH-3E, nicknamed the Jolly Green Giant due to its enormous size and olive drab exterior. The tradition came about when pilots or other military personnel were in need of rescue. After these personnel were rescued, they would proceed to receive the tattoo of the green feet on their buttocks due to the fact that the Para Jumpers "saved their ass."

Most of America likes reality tv too.

And vote Democratic.

Few workers want to support millions of non workers but we keep doing it.

I dunno if the numbers angle is working for yer argument.

At least not for me.

Amirite?
