Anybody see the heartless SA thread on this? I couldn't make it very far, but for me it epitomized why I'm here instead of there. The difference in responses is astounding...

The quote is good, too, except...

It's what Richard ("I am NOT a crook...") Nixon used when the "left" office. I've always felt it was a misued quote, especially by Nixon.

I lost EVERYTHING 9 years ago when I had a heart attack at 36, self employed, had to start over from zero. But I had my beautiful wife and 3 kids and we stuck it out...so I speak from experience! You can do this!

apologies if this is inappropriate right, BUT...

frankly, all the media attention is an enormous blessing for the family...i'm thinking they absolutely must take advantage of it.
just like with every single other tool, imo "celebrity" is neither good or bad...just need to use it properly(and timing may be everything)

they play their cards right, they should easily emerge out of this drama is a much better situation.

the most well known(to me) story of a wife tagging along on hubby's adventures was "sailing promise" written a generational ago..

..yet alaine main wasnt in international news for a week. and she didn't have nearly the drama or story to tell.
imo, the wife here is a pretty darn good writer... she needs to tell her story

feed a little life all the housewives flaming yall online and to armchair sailors out there saying 'i told ya so'.
for them, picking up fresh krispy kreme is all the adventure they normally see. and while frequently annoying, they will pay for that switch 51 should u continue cruising (or a house in the 'burbs if u don't)

whatever they do i hope they don't let their 15 mins of fame go to waste

Did it have AIS? It's not much of a navigation hazard to big ships and it wasn't moving very fast in a very big ocean

I saw one on CA and couldn't hold my tongue due to it's crappiness, hate to think what the SA one is like (if there is a different one).

All of the news stations now are big on saying: "Tell Us What You Think!".

As a result, there are a ton of people who think what they have to say is informed, relevant and/or important. In reality, about 95% of it is ignorant rubbish. I would say the same about anyone who is bashing Rebel Heart. Those folks were serious about being prepared. They had an unfortunate circumstance that no amount of planning could have prevented.

We've been reading their posts & blogs for years and they were not bumbling into this trip on a wing & a prayer.

I'll be sending some money to help Eric, Charlotte & family rebound.

For Sailing Anarchy it actually is quite benign. I will say that the series of postings they listed from Charlotte's blog made me think more about the mental situation on Rebel Heart before the baby got sick. It didn't sound good.

I was thinking the same thing earlier today, but refrained from posting it because it wasn't appropriate at that time. Now that they are safe, I'm with you, I hope they turn this adventure into a silver lining, their story has so much more going for it than "All is Lost."
