I feel like it would be vulnerable to back pressure, but then my exhaust has a huge lift to manage, the top of the final goosneck is nearly 1.3 meters above the waterline.

I think the key is to not have a low spot in the line so no water can collect. A loop would likely end its anti-siphon properties.
I changed the setup a few years ago and, typically lol, can’t remember the finer details!
