pirate Florida keys destinations

Greetings all.
I am looking for great places to go in the Florida keys. Don't like glitz. Love nature, thin water, boat draws 2 ft. Off the beaten path. Good fishing, lobster. Any thoughts. Thanks!

Sombrero Key beach and picnic area with showers facilities, in Marathon-FL has it all; a must visit! Another place to visit, Bahia Honda state park by the 7 mile bridge. (Both on the Atlantic side.) Have fun! Mauritz

With shoal draft you can get into the mooring field in Pennekamp SP. We spent a couple of weeks waiting for weather there once. Weather sucked so tourist traffic in the park was low, but mooring field is really well protected and we practically had the park to ourselves.

I am assuming that you are trailering the boat down. If so you may want to explore the saltwater part of Everglades National Park.

One other item I forgot to mention....we have 2 golden Retrievers that travel with us. Is the state park pet friendly? Thanks for the responses.

Ah, I would NOT take the dogs to Everglades National Park. There are numerous alligators and some crocodiles there..... This could present an issue for the dogs.

Seriously, don't take them there!!

Cap

You are a local, presumably, you have some experience of how to spot gators and where they tend to hang out.

I would never recommend a tourist bringing their dog into Everglades National Park. Over the years i have occassion to chase (smaller) gators out of my campsites. Once again, not something I would suggest to someone who is not familiar with the park.

Just my humble opinion

Bill
