Feeling Outclassed!

Well, I'm never crossing an ocean... Seriously--I'm not, and don't wish I could!

My boats have all been small.

But I LEARN so much from y'all! Seriously! Maybe not in detail, but in principal.

I'm not sure what I have to share, but I learn a lot here!

BTW--those of you with "Two -Foot -It is"...it's not my call, but it's less often the size of the boat than you think! Although, having just had a birthday, I can see the allure...

Oh! I almost forgot--bless you all, because no one is as free as a man* with a boat, an anchor and no schedule but wind, tide and weather!

*Man = Human Being because I went to school way back when, at a time when we thought elegance of language, and the old rules of grammar and word usage counted....

Nothing wrong with small boats. They are affordable and fun. In fact, I find small boats are much more fun to sail and a lot less work than big ones.

Small boats are big fun. Big adventures can be found close to home. Bigger boats are more comfortable to live on and cover long distances faster. Small boats may get to the fun faster. And really, on a sailboat once you cast off you are already there.

Re: Feeling Outclassed!

My current yacht is a Dyer Dink, 6'11" with impeccably varnished spars and centreboard and such. I'm glad to hear I really don't need the 9 footer.

You're in good company here.

Re: Feeling Outclassed!

Some of our best times were on some of our smallest boats.

Re: Feeling Outclassed!

I used to build RC boat models when I could not have any boat ... and before that I did not have any money so I just made boats out of woodbark and modified them till they sailed right across the pond.

It is not the size of the boat that makes one a sailor, it is the size of the passion that drives you.

Fair winds, sail free,
b.
