Another WA man! Join the team here! I have dual (actually 4) Racors (two in line, double line)- my mechanic just laughed at me. Let him laugh- he's not out in the pacific with the swell up!

After sailing from S.F. to P.V Mexico, and back. Many of my friends asked if I was ever afraid. It scared the hell out of me when I was tossed from my boat. It scared the hell out of me when she rolled while I was sleeping. Only to wake up being dropped from the coach roof. Splitting my melon open, and bleeding like a stuck pig.

What scared me even more was the thought of missing out on life, and being tied safely to the dock. I give Mother Nature every ounce of respect she asks for, and even more. The rewards of sailing, so far have overcome any of my fears..........i2f

When I asked about being scared on the ocean, my friend in London said, "It's not the Ocean that's dangerous; It's the hard bits that surround it."

Troy's comment about "...taking action" hits it on the head. Don't let fear in a situation cause action paralysis.

Oh, and Desert Mermaid; Take little heed of author's who write books about finding their inner selves while single hand sailing. They are selling their book and experiences. Your mileage WILL vary.

Dual Racors are no where near over the top. Most boats spend very little time in rough weather. When it comes, it REALLY stirs up the tank. Dual filters allow you to change over seamlessly when you need your engine the most. Try to get the vacuum gauge option on the #1 filter if possible. It will help you know when it's time to flip the lever...

BTW, Idorakeeper is an airline pilot. He HAS to be able to fly on one engine, or he's out on his ear!

I had understood you to be talking about the Racor filters in series - you seem to mean in parallel and switchable?

You could follow my route ... break the pipe from the tank and bucket brigade it empty then pump it in filtering it all the while and then discover the pipe is still leaking so pump it out and filter it again while pumping it back in., That is some clean diesel!

Cant see many reasons to run Racors in series. Engines already have secondary filters. Here's a pic of my dual home-made set-up.

I have a vacuum gauge in too. Just like it was mentioned. So far it is overkill, but I will let you know after a storm or two!
