Favourite boat.

Ive had some real nice boats, and been on some boats that cost more than I will ever earn in a lifetime.

The one boat that I had the most fun on ever, was not the biggest, not the fastest, and not the best looking. It would go anywhere, dry out on twin bilge keels and was as eager as a puppy to go places.

I was never on it above a force 5 so I cant even tell you if it would handle really bad weather. The word is that it does.

Drying out on twin keels, with a berth big enough for two? Easy to see why it might have been the most fun.

Awesome boat. I also like the Norsea 27. Both very capable mini yachts.

Has anyone ever sailed the Centaur long distance across open water?

Not me. But in my twenties, I had many fun girls night out on one. My best friend lived aboard her centaur just a few boats down from me. Had an old seagull outboard. We'd take her sailing till the wee hour of the morning then anchor out and get toasted . At times there was up to five of us, had plenty of sleeping room. (Though I was always in a hammock at the bow ).

Yes, one did the Azores and Back to UK race a couple of years ago. Weather was rough with F8 in the first week. His solution reef down take it steady, heavy too when necessary. think the boat was called the "Black Pig" if you want to Google for it.

You know... if anyone has any info regarding long distance use of a Taurus, in weather and seas.... Id be interested in knowing.

I have a nephew who is wanting to get a smaller yacht. My own experience with the Taurus has been nothing but positive and it is a boat I would recommend to him.... he wants to cross channel UK-France and do the bay of Biscay but as a young person he has a finite amount of money.

Because so many were built, Taurus can be purchased very reasonably. I can help him out with some safety equiment etc, but told him to hang fire until I asked CF if they have offshore experience with it.

Dylan on Keep Turning Left has just bought a budget Centaur so would be worth following his adventures around the UK, partcularly when he reaches Scotland later this summer.

Ive been watching KeepTurningLeft for a long time now

Just interested in offshore experience with the Centaur.

They can be purchased VERY reasonably..... lots made. Good hulls.

took a griffon across the biscay last year, basically the same hull shape etc
all i can say is they are a bit lively on a reach as the back end tends to slide out,not having much underwater profile and rudder surface area

Some time ago I met one in Greece. Nice couple sailed her from East England, through Biscay and Gibraltar. She behaved very well in strong meltemi, on confused short seas near Amorgos. Must be really fine small boat
