Favourite anchorages Bass Strait and Tasmania

We are heading to Tasmania from Sydney in Sirius 45' draws 6'. I would be interested to hear about members favorite anchorages on the way. We were going to Refuge Cove then the Hogan Group, Flinders Island and down the East Coast so I would be grateful for any info on anchorages along the way.
Thanks Mike

Re: Favourite anchorages Bass Strait and Tasmania

Mike,

There are lots of anchorages on the way. Once you reach Tasmania's east coast, they get a bit scarce in terms of all-weather protection, but there are well marked headlands etc for shelter. The better anchorages start around Wineglass Bay on the Forestier Peninsula, although that can be a bit rolly if there's a swell running out at sea. South of there you have Triabunna which is all-weather or anchorages inside Maria Island which are also good (watch the anchorages on the seaward wide of Maria as they can get a swell in them). South from there you have Fortescue bay which is OK in most weather but can get a swell, and then it's around the corner to Port Arthur which is all weather. From there to Hobart here are plenty of them. Cheers.

Hi Mike

Pop over to our website where you will find a Tasmania Cruising Guide online. You'll find photos, GPS positions, weather info, marina info, and much more for no cost.

We have assembled the many sections into one downloadable document, available in several formats for the cost a midi.

If you have any questions, we're online most days.
Presently Banyandah, our cutter is on the hard in Kettering, but soon we'll be heading north so our wakes might cross.

Hope that helps,

Anywhere around the d'Entrecasteux Channel and Bruny Island is fabulous. We loved Partridge Island. Also Wineglass Bay and the inside of the Freycinet Peninsula.
Definitely check out Banyandah's website, a wealth of information

Enjoy beautiful Tassie!

Re: Favourite anchorages Bass Strait and Tasmania

Hi Jack and Jude

We're currently on a temporary work break in Hervey Bay QLD and not exactly sure when we will head north - around mid year probably. We are making plans (and money) to re-rig, re-paint and possibly even re-power Bass Voyager before we head overseas. Plenty of gorgeous cruising to be had around here and up to the Capricorns though!

Hope to cross paths sometime!

Caitlin and Michael

Aye, plenty round Fraser and Bundi. Capricorn group well under-rated. Love them, but maybe not so grand in June July August when wind so strong. We're thinking of exploring the Coral Sea Islets en-route to TI a bit earlier though, say May before the trades get strong. Good Luck.
