Exchange of sailing areas, not boats!

Hello,

Me and my wife have been sailing for the last 5 years in the Mediterranean during the summer months. We use, and we like, to receive friends to sail with us during periods that normally go from 1 up to 3 weeks. We have been in the south of Portugal and Spain, Balearics, South of France, Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, Adriatic and Greece (Ionian). We will gladly sail for another 2 summers either to return to lovely places that we visited before or to know new ones. But it would be great if we could try other areas, namely the Caribbean.

As we like to cruise in calm waters under well defined meteorological conditions, the Atlantic crossing is out of question for us. Last year we saw, in Gibraltar, a cargo ship with the deck full of boats. May be we should contact one of these companies to get an estimate of the cost to take our boat to the other side of the Atlantic. However, we have our 3 pets at home and, when we are sailing, we flight home from time to time, to see how they are being treated. If the boat was in the Caribbean, travelling home would not be so easy as it is now.

We are not sure if it would be a good idea to invite someone (preferable a couple) to sail with us, that in turn, would invite us to sail with them. I would like to hear what people in this forum think about this.

ps: I am happy to discuss, by private messaging, any concrete possibility around this idea. For the moment here is the basic information - I am a retired university professor, Portuguese and 64 years old. My wife is also retired, Brazilian and 53 years old. Our boat is a Beneteau Oceanis 40. We will sail Greek waters from May to September.
