Evacuation Insurance

We are aware of the Diver Dan evacuation coverage but DD will only airlift you to the closest medical facility; however as Canadians we would like to find an insurance carrier that would provide evacuation insurance back to Toronto in lieu of an American city. For the past 4 years we have sailed in the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos and the Dominican Republic. This next winter we hope to either go to Cuba or do the thorny path to Grenada. The farther we sail and the older we get the more concerned I am about health insurance.
Thanks for your input....insurance can drive one crazy!

Re: Evacuation Insurance?

BUPA has an SOS writer that you can get cheap....I used it once from Yemen to Switzerland...amazing service.
I'm not sure how they determine your destination, but it may be worth looking into.

Re: Evacuation Insurance

We haven't signed up for medevac services, but have done some looking around. This firm looks pretty good...

MedjetAssist - Evacuation | Medical Transport Services

From their website...

Quote:
MedjetAssist is a medical evacuation membership program that arranges medical transfer to the hospital of the member's choice. If a Medjet member becomes hospitalized more than 150 miles from home and meets transport criteria, Medjet will arrange medical transfer to the hospital of their choice at no additional cost. All the member pays is their membership fee.

Re: Evacuation Insurance

Very interesting article about these guys in the April issue of Outside Magazine. I'd definitely check them out.

Re: Evacuation Insurance

MedJet recently came out with an interesting app in the Android market, a freebie that gives first aid and emergency medical instructions. And of course, has links to go online and purchase their evacuation plans.

The really unimpressive thing is that clicking on any of those links (which are, after all, the whole purpose of the app) causes a crash.

One has to wonder....
