Question East to West Coast Transport?

What is the cost to have a boat transported from the East Coast USA to the West Coast USA? I suppose there are two methods; have it sailed there, or via transport vessel.

Curious

What type of boat, width, length, weight and overall height. From where to where. Generally it is less expensive to truck verse's hiring a captain to go on its own bottom. Most of the time I have priced a captain and crew from East to West it works out to around 25K or more. If the boat is to large to truck you would have to put it on a ship about 25K from Fort Lauderdale to Ensenada MX. I have a price to ship a Nauticat 33 from the Great Lakes to Oregon 10K plus de-rig and re-rig. If you have time and can get trucking as part of a back load you can save 40-50%.

I'm interested in large cruising boats, like 38'-47' Catamarans.

I just had my 41' Mainecat shipped from Pt. Everglades to Victoria, BC for about $26k. Easier than I would ever have imagined. 3 1/2 wks. Mast up. Really slick deal. Yacht Path International | Yacht Transportation Worldwide | Boat Delivery | Yacht Carrier Cheaper than Dockwise by 10-20%.

Any option with that boat is going to involve water. It can't go overland.

This discussion has occurred elsewhere, I think the consensus was that if you want a shiny new boat on the west coast ship it. If you want to have fun sail it. Paying for a delivery will be a little cheaper. I'll do it for $2.00 NZ (about $1.50US) per mile plus expenses ex LA. You're welcome to come along. It's a great rip.
