An eloquent argument for a return to the CCA rule.

Still love them but not as much as I used to. Getting old is a pain.

Re: Don't you just love spinnakers?

I used my spinnaker twice before I ran over it offshore. I had enough - too much work to suit me.

I switched to a double headsail rig and never turned back.

That being said, I like the looks of spinnakers that other people are flying.

Re: Don't you just love spinnakers?

The greatest spinnaker photo I ever saw is Onne Van der Wal's shot of Wham Bam, a 37' Morgan Heritage One Ton being dragged sideways down the Chesapeake Bay by her chute. It was a Yachting cover. I couldn't find a copy online though one hangs on my wall. Anyone who has ever seen it will forever remember it.

A perfect indictment of the IOR.

Yup, real. I remember when it was first in magazines.

A house is but a boat so poorly built and so firmly run aground you would never try to refloat it.

Look for photographer: "Beken of Cowes" , boat: "Silk 2"

Someone told me that there was a bowman who ended up with ruptured eardrums when they submarined. Here's another shot:

My spinnakers are the fastest sails I have, but when things go wrong, they go *really* wrong. Intrinsically unstable, especially on a heavy displacement boat like mine. In strong wind they just want to go sideways, and you can't lose concentration for a moment. Not bad at all in light air though.

Actually, I love flying a chute and us mime every chance I get... in winds under 15 knots. I just liked that photo.

Owww! The mast looks like it may be trimmed with excessive rake!! What a great s hot of a very unfortunate incident.

And for us... we love our kite, but it is a big bugger, and we now only fly it in pretty light conditions, or if we have guest crew on board. But the boat loves it too, and is pretty easy to control... up to a point. We try to avoid that point!

Ha, this sums up spinnakers on cruisng boats pretty well! Its so easy to push it just a touch too long in a building breeze, then wham! that beautiful balloon turns nasty...

I had a great spinnaker on Snowpetrel 1. I found it shredded in a skipbin and had 25 meters of rips sewed up by a canvasworker for $100. Boy was it ugly! And the leech on the stb side had a nasty curl, no good for reaching unless it was inverted to keep the good leech to windward. But fun to use in light airs and flat water.

The no whitecaps rule is a smart one.

I have a really pretty rainbow coloured spin. But I don't know how to rig it

Sooner or later I'll work it out.
