Went down to the
boat show">Annapolis
boat show. 30 feet inside the first tent was
Mantus. I had just finished reading this thread, and last
winter spring I replaced my sprit with a redesigned sprit that would hold a bigger anchor.
Now I'm the proud owner of a 125lb Mantus!
One size bigger than storm anchor by their
charts.
But I suck at
anchoring, and I like to sleep.
I must be the worlds worst anchorer. I drag all the time, I've been in places where I can't get a 66 lb Spade to slow down. I've apparently anchored on old
sails.
When I do hook in I've usually got a cable over the hook and have a real fight to get free.
In my own defence I've had some pretty bad luck, but still, it wears on you.
We got our
current boat it had a 45 lb
CQR on the bow. 44,000lb and 44 ft. That was a joke. It also came with two huge Danforth types, but no obvious way to launch or retrieve them.
The Spade was a definite improvement, but still a wee bit light. 66lb vs the 110lb recommended. It was the biggest I could get to
work with the stupid bow arrangement.
I've yet to fit the anchor let alone use it. Wish me good luck and sweet dreams.
