A learnt several things.
Don't hook up my computor keyboard to the helm
Never rely on MSoft for such a mission critical excersise such as steering my boat
Don't rely on a person with poor keyboard skills (me) to steer my boat.
Don't buy a birth tooo small for the boat

Never steer with the laptop, The helm on our boat seems to work much better than those arrow keys in my laptop. Perhaps a joystick?

But not a very fun game.... I thought it was weird that when you had the rudder "amid ships" you still would drift port or starboard, according to where the rudder was placed prior to setting it to "amid ships"

Anyone have input? On my real boat, it didn't work like that. Maybe my boat was broken.

While we are on the games subject. Seeing as the winter months are fast approaching for me down here, does anyone know of any free sailing simulators I can down load?? I suppose if anything is available, being free will limit me to some rather pathetic simulations huh?

Hay you reckon its that easy, you want to try my cat - which has the standard two rudders, but only a single engine. Berthing when the wind is off the jetty can be an interesting manoeuvre especially when single handed!

Yeee haaaa. Now THATS a simulator. A real problem solver. Anything gets in the road and the problem can be eliminated. Going to hit the dock? Problem elimiated. Some Gin Palace not giving way? problem eliminated.
Hmmmm, now if I can just work out how to mount to the fore deck hmmmm.

Get a peg-legged pirate together with some sailors, add a few cannons, and everyone's happy. Amazing!!!

pdavis.nl has a very good simulator (free) for two and three masted brigs.
Well worth seeing why the old trade routes were down wind, and what a spanker is really for. Leave the crew in charge, and just direct the helmsman initially.
The ship is Surprise, Capn Aubreys first command, maybe.
