Lots of people carry them. It's a personal decision, and there are many factors which the OP can learn about using the search function. But it's a stretch to use the word consensus on this topic.

Let me rephrase my response. Based on the number of threads I have read on the topic, there seems to be more negatives than positives. I have no interest in US gun laws, nor in curtailing your rights under the constitution. But those rights do not extend beyond territorial waters. And yes, everything I post here, as I expect for most people, is an opinion. I am allowed to have one, and now you know what it is.

While this is clearly an American obsession, it is not exclusively so, as claimed above. One needs remember no further than the tragedy involving Sir Peter Blake, from New Zealand, who died with a rifle in his hand while defending his ship from pirates, to realize that there are non-Americans who decide to, ahem, pack heat.

Re: Do you pack ''HEAT'' while you sail?

Most man portable HEAT is normaly in missile form, in this case the shaped charge will go straight throught the first skin of any private boat. the potential break up and spray of the high speed jet would undoubtedly ignite flamibles in the path. But this is no doubt moot as the 500gm(minimum) of military explosives going off against the hull is realy going to ruin your day.
Besides if you are attacked by a main battle tank you must have upset someone so big and important you realy shouldent have been there in the first place.

Re: Do you pack ''HEAT'' while you sail?

I'm disappointed! I have no interest really in the subject because there are already lots of similar threads. But I devoted time off of my lifespan reading as the topic normally is fun to to read, but it isn't and you guys aren't trying hard enough and let me down

Its fake... btw.

Love threads where a bunch of people jump in posting photos that validate their ideas of the American stereotype. Classy. Especially when they start posting made up photos. Great fun.

It's all in good fun. There have been so many of these threads that no one takes them seriously any more. It's an opportunity to crack some jokes and blow off steam. I lived in the southern US for more than long enough to find that particular stereotype appropriate and hilarious. Classy-no. Funny-yes.

Suppose you're right. I've visited the north often enough to have my own stereotypes about you folks.

As long as we're on this one yet again, may I suggest it be expanded to "Packing heat while sailing offshore on a Hunter"?

Your northern stereotypes are probably just as accurate as my southern- that is pretty darn accurate. However, I myself am neither northern or southern, eastern or western. I'm a peace corps brat and hence a citizen of the world in spirit at least.
