Lookup posts by Garymayo. He has the clipper marine with trailer, and several photos.

Re: Do Used Sailboats 27-30' Usually Come with their Trailer?

I had a trailer-sailer for a while. Unless you plan to stay out a couple days they are not really worth it. The set up time takes a couple hours once you've done it a few times and haven't damaged the rigging up-stepping the mast. Then you have to take it all back down again.

Never again would I have a sailer on a trailer unless I wanted to tow it to different far off places.

And if they are higher then a semi-truck (18 wheeler) you better know your height limit. I had to use an extended dolly to launch the thing at regular boat ramps. And I had short keels.

A friend of mine burned out the clutch on his Range Rover twice while trying to tow a 25' power boat. He eventually bought an old truck specifically for the task. What I'm saying is: would you want one on a trailer?

You sail them from place to place. Works out pretty good that way.

Thanks guys for your responses. Ive really looked into it and usually the transportation is a one time thing. So if it needs to be taken out of the water they use those boat hoists with the straps to move them around. What exactly are these called? boat hoists and boat lifts are broad terms but i'm talking about the ones that are one wheels. What are these called?

Travel Lifts are what they use in yards to pull and launch boats.

Most trucking companies that do boats can get the boat on and off a trailer without any fancy equipment if the boat has a cradle. Loaded and unloaded our 20,000# Westsail using jacks and blocks. Cradles are also handy for long term storage on the hard.
