Do Multihullers Ever go Back?

Although there have been many discussions about the pros and cons of multihulls vs. monohull I have personally not found a thread that specifically addresses previous "owners" of multihulls that have gone back to monos.
So if you are out there would love to hear your reasons.
This would obviously apply to those who continue to cruise.
I do not think comments from those who charter would be of any benefit as those made by paid delivery skippers. Not because either group are not experienced but they have not lived the life of an actual owner.

We almost went back to a mono, we were going to buy a less expensive mono somewhere from 41-48' then rapidly changed our minds after going aboard a few ( might have been different if the 44 or 50+ wellington were cheaper) . Our reasons were the exaggerated motion even at dock. The cavelike feeling we got down inside. Small cockpits. And heeling. Don't get m wrong maybe someday as we don't hate monos, we just like so much more about cats. We would be able to leave about 3 years sooner in a mono. Everything is freaking pricey on larger cats and even though you have twice engine redundancy you still have twice the upkeep costs...

The bumfuzzles went from multi to mono. They had reasonable reasons for it. They discuss it on their blog.

Going back to a Mono? That's just crazy talk.

1) Who wants the exaggerated motion even at the dock.

2) The dark cavelike feeling we got down inside.

3) No forward view from inside the saloon

3) The Small cockpits with a huge wheel taking up your walkway.

4) The heeling and holding on for dear life.

5) Spilling your drinks all the time

6) Cooking on a tilting stove straped in

7) Passing food and drink up those steps to the cockpit

It just sucks on so many levels. It's all good

I forgot you have More room to mount anchors. Carry a larger gun collection and fit more women on them! And being 21' wide we can troll like 7 rods across the back... Or is that called dredging lol

Currently have 3 women aboard, lots of fishing rods, no guns...who needs guns when you can trade surplus white-women ;-) .

Errr, but the other 2 women also have their husbands with them :-( .

When my ex and I had to spend a lot of time at home in Florida I bought a nice monohull ketch for us to sail locally since her cat's mast had to be unstepped.

Then the relationship ended. When I decided to go back to the Bahamas I thought to myself "Damn! This boat could sink!"

I'm not saying it's impossible for a multi to sink, but my Norman Cross plywood/epoxy trimaran has a lot better chance of staying afloat then a leadmine.

Funny you mention Lagoons. In the past month there have been three fairly new Lagoons come through here. We spoke with owners on all three. All three told me the same thing, which is mainly a long tale of constant problems and headaches with new boats. One of them left here this morning, a 2014 450 on it's way from St. Martin to NY. Problem after problem after problem.

To conense it, they'd each buy a Lagoon again. None of the three would ever buy a new Lagoon again.

One thing I seldom see mentioned is that while I do get the occasional ding when sailing my cat it seems like every time I go out on a friend's monohull I wind up with cuts, scrapes, bumps, and bruises and I can not figure out where they came from. There is lots more room to walk up to fore deck and lots more room up there. I seldom go below on my cat when sailing since the cockpit and salon are undivided and there is a huge area out of the sun to sit or lie down.

Not saying I do not like monohulls but for an old guy like me a cat is much easier on my weak tired body.

We are currently looking to purchase another multihull and I really wish we could go with a mono because of the price. But it ain't gonna happen!

The prior owner of my cat went back. For a number of reasons, it was not a good fit for them.

I had considered going mono after my 2nd cat (Stiletto 27), because I wanted more boat for the $$. But my wife and I both like cats, we sucked a deep breath, and plunked down the money. It was worth it, for the type of sailing we do.

This Cat owner will never go back to Mono, Even tho I sank it, Still waiting for it to be repaired, Then I will be off again in it, Liveaboard full time, Constantly on the move,

The flat and level floor in all weathers and seas, I am not getting thrown around,

My coffee cup sits where I leave it,

I spend most of my sailing time resting on the Hammock hanging off the back of the transom,
My Cat will sink with holes in the bottom of it, But I have that covered now as well, Air bags that can be quickly inflated, Not that I intend sinking it again,

Its just a prepared state of mind, I can keep it on the surface, Thats all that counts, That gives me the time to repair holes I may have, Or wait till the storm blows out, Then I can repair any damage at my leisure,

The seas around the bottom of OZ where I live, Are not for the Faint Hearted, The Ocean and Weather comes straight up from Antartica,

I went out with a group of seven Mono's just recently, I was on a 30 odd foot Mono,
two people in that cockpit, It was crowded, Light breeze, The floor was at 30 degrees, Cant put your drink down any where, Its over the side,

Always hanging on to some thing, To avoid falling over,

Go back to Mono's, No way known,

I would go back to a mono if the choice was a mono over not going at all. I really just want to go!
But I agree, Cats ARE cool.
