A masthead mounted cow could be a valuable source of milk, wind information and fresh beef.

That might be useful to have one on a boat. I wonder if they know the difference between true and apparent???

If you a landing a small plane in a grass field, never fly up a cows bum. But if landing a float plane, read the transom on the way in.

Ok so, cows can also be used as compasses. I wonder if they have to be adjusted for deviation. Do you put magnets on their ears?

Salty--don't you know. Thats why there are no cows at the Poles. They come fitted with fluxgates,-- and can't lift their heads high enough for star shots.

But I noticed that horses tend to face in opposite directions so 1) they can see as a pair 360 degrees, and 2) to use each others tail to brush away flys from face.

On Insatiable we have a well established practice:
Red Sky ib the morning, Sailor take warning.
Red sky at night, Sailor take warning.
Works every time!
And as to the masthead cow... there might be some fallout problems with this instrument system.
Cheers,
Jim

Had an old farmer tell me if the cows are all grazing fishing is good, if they're laying around don't bother.

forsailbyowner - another reason to take one on a boat.
OK to get us off the cows, here's a more practical nautical hint I'm sure you already know:
With your back to the wind, if the high-altitude clouds are moving from left to right, weather will worsen; if right to left, it will clear. If they are moving toward or away from you, will remain the same.

Hey guys having the cow on board not only gives you wind direction, magnetc direction, beef, milk, but everyone knows it'll rain soon if the cows are laying dowm. I'll have to rethink the chicken coop thing. The cow sounds much better! Lets see, compas, barometer, wind indicator, they must add up to a few pounds. What does a cow weigh?
