Distance from you to your boat?

We live in Seattle and make the 2hr trip to Blaine (Canadian Border) looking at re-locating closer to home for some re-fit, as was said earlier in this thread that not much will get done with the boat farther away. As far as just showing up and heading out 2hrs seemed about the max I would do.

We post a small laminated sign on our dock box with name and cell number in the hopes that if somebody sees something bad they'll call. I'd do the same but 99% of the time I have no contact info. I also have a good relationship with my slip neighbor and I'll shoot a quick email, "at the boat this weekend, yours looks good." If you have a far away boat and no good neighbor or marina staff though, not sure what you do. Webcams I know, but in my experience they're technically troublesome and nothing beats a pair of eyes.

I had a boat in Florida while living in the Seattle area. It's tough. Hard to maintain a boat with the distance. When you go to the boat, plan on spending a couple days to a week doing "stuff" before you use her. OTOH, the Northwest is superb cruising June-Sept compared with southern Cal. Or April- October for hardier souls with heat!

4,552 miles and it takes about 30 hours to get to. I think it works perfect for us. We get 8 plus weeks of solid cruising then don't have to worry about it again for a year. It takes two days to put away for the winter and three days to put back together in the summer. Any repairs are done as we cruise so it isn't a bother.

10 minute drive, I live in the PNW and with our espar keeping us warm, have even been know to go for a trip or 2 in the middle of winter. If your boat is equipped, you can cruise year round.

Well I live on my boat except when I'm deployed to Afghanistan ( 6 months at time). Thats just over 7000 miles away. It helps to have a good marina that keeps an eye on the boat and emails you regular if there is a problem or any questionable weather headed toward the boat! Before I moved aboard, I lived 508 mile away and made the trip twice a month to be on the boat about 100 days a year. If you love it you will find a way to enjoy it!!

About 3000km away in another country. But it is no real hassle. I can leave home at 6 in the morning and be aboard after lunch. Cost a bit over $100 each way, less than a tank of petrol for the car. I stay on board 4-8 weeks each time about 3-6 months apart.

1.1 miles..and that's too far. But that's because I like working on the boat. There is enough to do without any make work.
