Dingy motor lifting harness.

Does anyone know of a source for a harness for lifting a small outboard with a davit?

Make your own with a 4-6 ft piece of 1/4 line

Re: Dingy motor lifting harness.

Don’t most outboard motors have a lifting ring built into the bracket? All three of our Mercury outboards have this feature. Maybe it’s just incorporated into the older two strokes and isn’t as common as I thought.

Mine does too, but it lifts the outboard at a silly angle. I like a harness that keeps the OB straight.

These kinds of questions always baffle me. Why not just type "outboard lifting harness" into Google or other search engine of your choice?

You'll see that Davis makes the most popular one, and you can make your own out of rope if you prefer. Either approach works fine. I'll bet there is a west marine store near you in FL that has the one from Davis in stock and ready to go.

You'll have to check their website for yourself...

..

Well, in defence of the OP a google search may not take you to a source of opinion that you trust or is in any way relevant. More likely to produce marketing hyperbole than anything else.

I google plenty of stuff, but if I want to hear from a bunch of my peers with similar needs and priorities to mine, I come here and ask the question.

Re: Dingy motor lifting harness.

I’m with Geoleo. I fitted a four part rope strop through 1/4" holes I drilled in the corner flanges of the motor, then brought them up to a stainless ring. It just hangs out of the way when the engine is on the dinghy. Piece of cake.

I have one made by Ocean Marine Systems and it works well - Yamaha 6hp. I have one of their cranes as well. This is a west coast Canadian company though it does most of its business in the United States .
