Sometimes it's not even closer to shore, it's just a different spot.

Consider the source: dealer's job is to sell boats. Many shoal draft monos sail OK in light to moderate conditons, but Ive never sailed a shoal draft version of a boat that sailed as well as the full draft version when the weather picks up. As posted by others, when the wind and seas pick up is where the difference between shoal/deep draft mono really becomes obvious.
