Re: deep keel or centerboard.?

I hear a lot more complaints about centerboards than keels, mostly mechanical problems.

Way too vague of a question. Way too many variables. If you want a useful answer, Lt., then you need to get a lot more specific.

Re: deep keel or centerboard.?

for sailing a keel the deeper the better.

For convenience a center board..

And for cruising far away lands, a full keel...

Re: deep keel or centerboard.?

Paraphrasing what is above:
1. If you want to go fast, turn on a dime, race or just want to spend time relearning where all the shallows are in your area--Centerboard.
2. If you want to sail the blue water and minimize beer spillage--full keel.

Re: deep keel or centerboard.?

With a well constructed keel/cb design, such as found in many of the Ted Hood boats, you get the advantages of both a shoal keel and deep keel.

Bristols and Wauquiez versions of Ted's designs are known to be well constructed and not at all problematic. The CB's are properly shimmed and there is no banging when in use.

Re: deep keel or centerboard.?

23 posts, and Lt. has already started 9 threads, including our latest gun thread.

Selected topics of Lt. threads:
trimaran or catamaran?
aluminum hull or steel hull?
Do you pack "HEAT" while you sail?

Seems to enjoy controversy. I'm guessing he's not yet old enough to purchase his first boat.

That I am, and as I've said, .I can't afford a yacht yet, but that's my dream. And with the way I've been planning everything, and with no real variables in my plan, in 20 or so years, I'll have a sweet yacht.

Re: deep keel or centerboard.?

Something you can count on Lt are variables. If you want to make God laugh, tell him you have a plan. Maybe I just go too distracted from time to time. Good luck with the plan though.
