We have been anchored in Sunset Lake for about a week waiting on weather
to go to Bimini
. We will leave here tomorrow. Right now there are six cruising sailboats, a motorcat, one little blue boat that is always here, and 20 or so Pico Laser hulls. The Florida
legislature is still grinding away, but for the time being we are legal
as are all the usual spots.
The Police Dock
has a 20 min limit, and we met a couple who paid $300 and had to retrieve their towed dinghy
from Seatow for staying there all day to go to the Miami Boat Show
The old Publix dock is legal
and crowded. There are lots of overly short painters making it difficult to tie to the dock. There is a short wooden ladder attached to that dock. Many dinghies are tied to the wall just above and below the dock. About 2/3 of the dinghies are locked, often on very short chains or cables
There are signs, both Seatow and Miami
Beach, along the Collins Canal wall in different spots. In other spots there are no signs and the occasional boat tied to the side.
Waterway Guide has a copy of the docking/mooring/launching ordinance if you would like to become an amateur attorney.
