Curious about aluminum foil

In my painting spurt, I was cleaning the hanging closets in the v-berth. For some unknown reason to previous owner had lined the door with aluminum foil, and a butt load of tape to keep it stuck on. Spend 30 minutes getting rid of the aluminum foil, and the residue of the tape, what a friggin mess that was!

It there a reason someone would line closet doors with foil? Just curious!

Aluminum foil is a form of "insulation" that reflects back radiated heat.
If it is on the inside of the DOOR, I'd guess they are trying to keep the outside heat from coming into the living space and keep it in the closet.

I have plastic over the vents in one door because after I bleed the engine the diesel fumes come up through there and make my pillows stink.

Owner was clueless and someone one told him to line the locker with foil. Someone had a good laugh as he stuck foil on his locker doors.

Re: Curious about aluminum foil

Now thats a...well I really dont know how to reply to that DOJ, but I am sure there is a grow lamp somewhere. Well, my foil is out of the boat. After all this scraping, sanding, painting and cleaning, I need to get me one of them wet/dry vacs. So as i figure out where to stow it. This 34footer doesnt have the best stowage. I need to condense, or start to look like a gypsy sailor.

Lol! - nah, just had the ceiling down anyway and after a good clean and a coat of paint I spent a couple of years pondering what to do (or whether to bother!) on some insulation (against either heat and cold)....settled on tin foil(ish) last spring. Am not totally sure how much good it did last summer, I think it made the boat cooler - but that could be as much down to the crap summer . and I think the biggest difference I did was soon after with some very well fitting DIY sunshades.......and a bit hard to tell how warmer it made the boat as a) the hatches not been on for a couple of years and b) I don't go down much in the winter!

The ceiling panels do of course cover the tinfoil (I don't want da Gubberment to know it is there ).

If not using already, a cheap / old 2" paint brush taped to a 12" stick is very useful for brushing up in the squillion nooks and crannies that a boat has and which a normal dustpan brush can't deal with.....and less storage space than a vacum cleaner .

Re: Curious about aluminum foil

I know the answer! This has been a common thought in order to increase one's image on radar. I've done it myself some years ago, but then I was told that it is not significant. I'm sure that the former owner did this to present himself as a more distinct radar target.

ya know, i thought about that being a possibility, since the PO did alot of florida to Rio Dulce. Though, hanging a big ball of it from the spreader would I think be better, instead of in a closet
