Cuba?

How does opening up Cuba affect your sailing plans.

Re: Cuba?

Not quite certain what you are asking. Are you asking if members plan to cruise to Cuba? Or is it something else?

You do know that technically, Cuba is not open for tourism. The rules still require you to comply with approved cultural, scientific, educational, etc travel restrictions.

Before all the comments to the contrary start arriving, YES I KNOW that lots of people are going there and one might say that there is de facto OK for boats to cruise to Cuba but the regulations about travel have not officially changed.

Re: Cuba?

The travel restrictions are not lifted yet. But just say 'if' the restrictions are lifted how would that change sailing from the US?

Re: Cuba?

OK, what if the travel restrictions to Cuba are lifted. Sorry to be a bit dense but I am still not clear on what you mean when you ask "how would that change sailing from the US?"

Assume don't mean the obvious that is, one could sail to Cuba from the US so a new cruising destination would be opened.

Also seems a bit obvious to say that one could stop in Cuba on the way to the Caribbean. For example going to Rio Dulce from Miami you could stop off in Cuba for food and fuel.

well I would add it the list of places to go to, and if nice might replace Bahamas as a place to winter at because I bet it is more interesting

Re: Cuba?

The USA lifting their travel ban will do nothing to change the Cuban cruising rules. Many people that do cruise to Cuba find the rules pretty onerous. Here are a couple of examples.

1. You must check in at every port before going ashore
2. You are not free to go ashore unless you are at a designated port (you cannot land a dinghy on any beach).
3. The south west cayos are very controlled and is mostly off limites (due to the bay of pigs thing).
