I too have done both. There is no comparison. Even when you are in the most crowded anchrage you can imagine you are still given your privacy. In an RV no matter how well you plan your trips you will find yourself occasionally looking out your kitchen window at someone who is 6 feet away sitting in his/her dinette. More often than not they are missing most of their teeth. The people you meet boating are far more interesting and, at the risk of sounding like a snob, a little better educated, even if just with the ways of the world. I sold my RV after I watched RV with Robin Williams and realized my kids were laughing at me the way his family did. I suppose there are those who sold their boat after watching Captain Ron!

You can't even compare the movies Captain Ron to the movie RV. Captain Ron is an all time classic!

I have done the RVing across the US. The venture was so awesome, we can do just what we want. We had so many pictures, thank goodness for digital cameras. As far as cruising, unfortunately I have only been on one cruise and that was from Long Beach to Ensenada. It was just a short turnaround for us. After awhile it seems like your taking pictures of the same thing. I guess I need to experience a two week cruise and I would probably have more scenery pictures to cherish.

Go to www.longpassages.org. They sailed for 14 years and are now "land cruising". Very good logs and info.

Gasoline is getting cheaper now, but who knows what will happen tomorrow?
Gas could go right back up the way it was.

That being said, with the little one I would do the RV now. When the child is older and better able to move about without as much worry about falling overboard, then do the cruise. You are young enough to where you still have time.

Don't wait too long, though!

Yeah, gas is getting cheaper while the price of wind is still holding at FREE. My parents had me onboard as a toddler. Would cruise the Great South Bay on Long Island from Fire Island to Sag Harbour. Some of my earliest and fondest memories but Mom did have four older kids to watch out after me, her youngest. They eventually got into camping with a pop up Apache where we'd head south to Florida and the Carolinas. So much fun! Either way you're gonna have a great time. Just Do It!!!
