Cruising Venezuela ?

Hi all, Can anyone comment on the situation in Venezuela at the moment?

Re: Cruising Venezuela ?

words from a venezuelan resident----
Quote:
From XXXX (sorry i had to block out the name..fear of retribution is real there)
I know that many countries are at war with terrorism and that people are being killed all over. We don't have terrorism as you know it here but we are slowly being killed and starved and forgotten by the world. Please keep us in your prayers, we don't know what is going on since yesterday, but something horrible is about to happen...we no longer have access to any basics or meds...the military are giving those to the poor only. The military appears to have taken over all powers...not a coup...the President announced it on national TV. An army general will be in charge of ALL ministers and public institutions now....the ports have been taken by the military as well. I have also just been informed that we can no longer make international calls through our cell phone services provider. I was trying to call XXXX and I couldn't so I call my Cell services provider...they told me that we can no longer make international calls

Re: Cruising Venezuela ?

Another member just asked the same question, same answer from all replies, including additional comments from many friends in Venezuela.

I have to ask, why would you want to go to Venezuela? There are so many other places to visit where you won't be risking your life.

Re: Cruising Venezuela ?

Slightly off topic but I have heard that there are significant bargains to be had when purchasing yachts in Venezuela. However, the risks of violence and the dearth of even basic supplies would likely offset any savings.

Fair winds and calm seas.

Re: Cruising Venezuela ?

as borders are currently closed and no one and no telephoning in or out of vene, it would follow that the alleged yacht sales have been discontinued.
as maduros nephews are in usa prison for drug trafficking, i believe the 12 usa citizens currently being held as political prisoners may face a terrifying time in their prisons.
if you plan on heading to a country with closed ports and no communication with outside world and retribution in progress against usa as a whole, you get what you receive. enjoy your travels.
