Re: Cruising start at 55 or 56

I think, in the end, a lot of this discussion, doesn't matter that much.

Those, who really want to go cruising, will find a way. Those that don't find a way, probably really didn't want to go that bad in the first place, or often, simply embrace the idea of cruising as kind of a romantic daydream, that they use to escape the daily grind for a while.

Nice to think and dream about chucking it all and going cruising-- not so nice to make the life changes and sacrifices to make it happen.

Nothing wrong with that, but also not much you can do or say to change that sentiment.

Re: Cruising start at 55 or 56

I used to rag on the guys that were always working on their boats at the dock while I was out racing or just sailing.

Yesterday, I completed sanding the old paint off the last 15' of topside hull! What great therapy to clear the stress of a rather crappy week. I had already completed sanding the bottom.

It was a beautiful day. My 6" sander was rockin' out with fresh 40 grit every few minutes. I then went over the whole thing with 80 and it was pretty enjoyable.

Afterward it was time for a few beers, enjoying the beautiful day staring at the creek and checking out all the rest of the boats in the water and on the hard.

Maybe there is a lot to this coastal cruising business. I hear offshore there is only water and sky.
