Cruising Bahamas - Andros

Thinking of a first cruise to the Bahamas. I prefer off the beaten track, few neighbours, self-sufficient cruising so am wondering about Andros.
Will be leaving Marathon Fl early March. Boat draws 4', full keel.
Any advice, best place to enter, anchorages at Andros? What are the banks like on the southwest end of Andros when a front passes?
Thanks.

Re: Cruising Bahamas - Andros

Not sure about the very SW side of Andros but the west coast in general is very shallow, marshy, mangrove swamps. Lots of bugs.

Andros is not a common cruising ground so even the more populated east coast will not be crowded, especially further south. The east coast, which borders on the very deep Tongue of the Ocean has one of the largest barrier reefs outside Australia, has beautiful reefs and great SCUBA and snorkeling.

A lot of the anchorages will be in the channel behind the reef. Good protection from surge but exposed to the easterly trade winds, which is to me a good thing as it helps keep the bugs away.
