Crossing the Laurentian Channel to Newfoundland

Hello all!

Perhaps someone out there can help me. Some day (finances permitting) I hope to try my hand at sailing but for now I'm a touring cyclist. I'm currently 6003km into a tour across Canada starting at the Alaska Border (W141 degrees) bound for Cape Spear. By early/mid July I'll be in Nova Scotia, staring at the Laurentian Channel and here is where I hope a kind soul with a sailboat might help me out. It would feel wrong after almost 8000km spent traveling slowly, quietly and without fossil fuels to hop on a massive ferry, burn through all that gas and ruin the experience of being out on the water. If anybody (or anyone you know) is sailing from the maritimes to Newfoundland in July and has room for one guy and his bicycle I'd be extremely grateful! I'm sure I could make myself useful and would gladly pay for the ride if need be.

Also, I realize this is not a forum for cyclists. I sincerely hope it's not a problem that I'm posting here but if it is, please let me know.

Cheers,
~D

Good luck. Not a huge number of sailboats going that way but July is likely your best shot. Most sailboats would leave from Cape Breton and that is where the ferry terminal is so you have a fall back. Probably somewhere to put up a sign at the canal into Bras d'Or Lake and at the yacht club in Baddeck.i

The Northern Yacht Club is close to the car ferry. Not a lot of cruisers go through there, local kind of place.

More folks would be going up through the St
Peters canal. You could try the Lions Yacht Club Marina in St Peters. Jerry is a great guy.

Best yet might be one of the Halifax clubs, not forgetting the Dartmouth club.

I'm going the wrong way for ye, bye! I'll be coming down.
