Completely Random Question

Does anyone know where the image at the top of the CF website was taken? It looks a lot like the view looking east from beach on the edge of Red Hook Bay in St. Thomas. It's been a long time since I've been there, so I could be imagining it, but just thought I'd ask.

Re: Completely Random Question

Looks like somewhere like that... so many mooring balls.... Great Bay BVIs?

Re: Completely Random Question

It isn't Great Harbour in the BVIs - those yellow swim zone markers and the view leads me to guess perhaps looking out of Mahoe Bay on St. John.

Re: Completely Random Question

I'm with Zanshin--looks like Maho Bay on St Thomas. Lovango Cay in the distance past the point to the left, Whistling Cay to the far right.

Curses on you!

I just spent a half hour look at pictures of the islands to see if I have a match.

Don't personally think it is Maho Bay, but I could be wrong. There isn't enough land beyond Lovango Cay in that direction and I would think you would see Congo to the right of Lovango.

It is fun to try to figure it out.

My apologies! It has been bugging me for some time. I feel like I have a picture taken from that very beach, but will have to dig it out of a box in the garage. I swear it looks just like the view from a beach in Red Hook, right around the corner from Latitude 18 on the southeast side of the bay. I worked for a small charter boat service there when I was 19 and would snorkel from that beach everyday. Couldn't that be St. John creeping into the right side of the image?

I also realize that there are probably 10,000 places that look just like that in the world. I'll see if I can't find that photo when I get home this evening.

I am pretty sure that it is Ontario, Canada. But my eyes aren't great.

Re: Completely Random Question

This is so intriguing! I actually found a scanned copy the picture I was referencing from back in 1999. It's not overly helpful as the quality is poor and it may even hurt my case. However, by using Google Earth and placing the little Ground Level View man in the water just off the beach (where the photo was taken) in Muller Bay (adjacent to Redhook Bay), the view to the northwest looks very similar to the CF image.

I sure hope someone knows the answer!

Upon further review, I'm 99.9% sure that picture was taken from the Bight Bay on Norman's Cay looking toward Tortola. The island behind the cat is either Flanagan or the East end of St. John's.

Re: Completely Random Question

I don't know where it is and its a cool pic, but the one that opens the Android CF app is very very nice.

Nope not the same place, the land mass is different on the left, similar but different.
