Cleaning up thru hull fittings

What is the best way to clean up the green on Brass fittingsClick image for larger version

If it's brass and not bronze, replace it with bronze. The brass fittings have a very poor reliability record.

Almost any acid based cleaner will take the green off. If you're spending time in that area, you might consider a structural improvement. I'd replace that wood backer block with a piece of fiberglass and I'd put a Groco Flanged Adapter between the thru-hull and the ball valve. Make sure it's a good ball valve while you're at it.
