Re: Cheap Sailboat Sightings

There is a Wellington 47 for sale here in Merritt Island for $15k, total gut job and needs a new motor, deck. Good news is it has 15lbs of lead in the keel.

I'm always finding boats on Craigslist and eBay. My present cruising boat came from eBay a little over a year ago and we couldn't be happier. Right now there are some pretty decent deals on eBay, and the "buy it now" has a few worthy project boats, sometimes those boats are best offer.

Thanks!! We <3 her. Needs lots of TLC but we think we'll have a sound boat in a couple of years. :-)

That Endeavor 40 would certainly be worth a look if anybody was in the area

What makes cheap?

How many pounds per pound?

Just found out about 2 boats in our marina that were repo'ed by marina. I'm sure they are cheap. One sail, one motor. I'm not sure about the status...if marina is trying to sell. But made me realize that checking with harbor master of any marina's might've a great way to get a boat cheap.

Whatever you see as a good deal. There are so many owners who just want to sell their boat, even if it is below what the boat is worth. Cruising, you must run into some once in a while. Just keep an eye out, you will know when you see it

Re: Cheap Sailboat Sightings

John G. Hanna (1889-1947) designed Tahiti 30' ferro two-masted schooner. $500 in Brisbane.

Plans for this yacht - as a ketch - first appeared in Mechanix Illustrated in 1935.

Needs loads of work naturally. Has an engine (non-running), masts, sails and it floats.

Re: Cheap Sailboat Sightings

Thanks for the input and for keeping this thread alive, I have seen such good deals happen by word of mouth, hope someone can gain from this thread.

Did I tell the story of the Islander Freeport? No matter, I tell it again

My friend was sitting on his boat ( 25 ft US Yacht), his dock mate came by and asked how much money does he have? Bill answered "not much". Turns out the boat on the next dock was about to be sold cheap cheap and George ( dock mate) wanted Bill a chance at it. The owner was widowed, the boat, an Islander Freeport had cruised from California to Texas, then sat a couple years after the owner died. The widow really wanted someone who would love and sail her boat. In the end, bill bought it for pennies on the dollar. Bill excitedly showed me the boat ( pretty good condition) and all the spares and cruising equipment aboard. He was later given the keys to a storage shed with even more goodies.

These things do happen, you just gotta be in the right place at the right time. Hopefully this thread will facilitate a happy story too

Re: Cheap Sailboat Sightings

If anyone in Clear Lake, Tx hears of a good deal. Oceanaddict is looking for sailboat to cruise, skeg hung rudder, but seems to be open to full keels also. Doesn't mind fixer upper, which we know goes with the cheap boat territory.
Anyways, please keep sharp eye out for deals, post em here or you can PM me.
