Charter in Croatia - Any Advice ?

Hi, I'm a new member and would appreciate any advice anyone may have about what area to cruise for a 2 week charter in Croatia. Also any recommended charter companies to look at. I don't want to pay top rates of the big boys (sun sail etc) but don't want to blindly choose a cheaper independent that turns out to be a cowboy.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Charter in Croatia. Any advice?

We went with Poseidon (www.poseidoncharters.com)last summer. Did a bareboat tour out of Split. They were fine and not overly pricey. Everything worked very smoothly.

They also have two-week flotilla tours that go from Dubrovnik to Split or vice versa.

IF you decide to bareboat, two words of advice:

-- the weather can be changeable, so try to keep an ear out for advisories. We had about 40 minutes warning of a mistral one night .. just time to up anchor and tie onto a mooring ball.
-- all of the anchorages are steep-to; you're very often going to be anchoring in 10 metres of water 30 metres from shore.

That said, the place is beautiful, the sailing can be super, the people are pleasant, the food is pretty good (very Italian), and the wine and beer are cheap and good.

My experience is limited to local charter companies out of Kastela. Pretty professional outfit. I rented twice and have had no problems at all. Some of them have new but also a little older (cheaper) boats. To be honest I pay a little more as we like a newer boat.

If you avoid July August you can get really good prices.

A friend of mine chartered last summer out of Split and was very pleased with the company she used. Its name was Mango Charters, but I have no other information on them.
There were 30 people in six boats on this charter, apparently no complaints from anyone.
