Charter from FL to Bimini, Bahamas

Hi,
I'm looking for a bareboat charter to sail from Florida (either Ft. Lauderdale or Miami) over to Bimini. I've had a hard time finding charter operations in either of these cities. If you've got any contact info or advice, I'd appreciate it. I'd be looking for something in the 30 to 40 foot range.

Thanks,
Rick

Rick, I would only ask Why? The gulfstream is so uninviting no charter companies that I know of will allow this. So... you get there and it takes a week to get back. I know it is a 12 hour ride but what 12 hours. Good luck.

I know of only one bareboat company renting to folks crossing the Stream, but the minimum requirement is a USCG ticket.

Chartered a 51 Beneteau a few years back from "Fun in the Sun" yacht charters in Ft Lauderdale, and did the Bimini and back loop. The trip over was a bit boisterous, but the trip back was smooooooth motorsailing.

When we hung out behind Gun Caye the day after crossing there were a bunch of folks anchored there waiting for a weather window to cross.

Good luck,
Don

PS - The pass into the harbor at Bimini is shallow and fairly narrow unless they've dredged it recently... local knowledge and watching the tides helps

Labor of Love

Thanks for the replies so far. As for why I want to make this trip, it's for my dad. He and his buddies used to take a few weeks off every year and sail over when they were younger. I went with him on a couple of these trips and I'd like to take him over again while he can still go.

Call "Fun In The Sun" in Ft. Lauderdale. Tell them Sunspot Baby sent you.
