chain plate replacement on Cape Dory 27

I am looking for some guidance on replacing my chain plates as they have deteriorated significantly. My question is to replace the existing backing plates or refit the boat with external (on hull) chain plates. The existing internal backing plates look very difficult to replace even for a expert.

Direction appreciated

I do not like external chain plates as I found them leaking pretty often.

Not clear why replacing chain plates in a '27`er should be a challenge. Images?

Chain plates/backing plates are in a very difficult spot to work on. They are in between the main cabin area and the head with structural items and bulkhead in the way. Looking at all options

thanks

Many Cape Dory chainplates have been replaced over the years and you are right that they are not the easiest but many people have successfully done it. There have been several posts about this very topic on the Cape Dory Board. If you haven't looked there to see if there is a write up on how to do it on the 27's, it is worth a look.
