central america to san francisco (newbie question)

Hi all,

I recently sailed from cartagena (colombia) to panama and had such a wonderful time I feel inspired to get a bit more involved in sailing. Right now I am in Panama and have 2 months to play with before I need to be in San Francisco and just had the thought that maybe there are boats that sail from central america to SF and I could join the crew.
I know nothing about sailing or the distances involved or the timeframe so my question for the community is, is this a feasible plan and where might be the best place in central america to set sail from?

Try Flysci.. I believe she's looking for a skipper and/or crew.. boats down that way now and she wants to get to Mexico.
Can jump on a N bound boat there..
