Catamaran Surveyor in Florida

Closing in on a purchase of a catamaran in Florida. Anyone have experience with a really good surveyor, will go up the mast as well? Any recommendations appreciated.

If you're on the west coast of Florida, try Tom Laskey - he did my pre-purchase survey, and I was very happy - Florida marine surveyor, yacht, boat surveyor,boat survey,Fort Myers,Ft.Myers,Naples,Cape Coral,Marco Island,Punta Gorda,Placida,Port Charlotte,Burnt Store,Sanibel,Pine Island,Clewiston,La Belle,Charlotte Harbor,Fort Myers Beach,Bonita Beach,Saint Ja.

For rigging I can recommend Ocean Rigging - Ocean Rigging - Professional Rigging for the Serious Sailor.

Regards,
David

Re: Catamaran Surveyor in Florida

You may be better served by having a seperate rigging inspection done by an expert rigger. I did this when I bought my last boat, & it was fairly educational, in addition to discovering some things of note. Ones that I know that I would have missed, even though I'm pretty sharp on rigging. And they were things that I've never seen a General Surveyor look for. Nor had I ever heard about such items being discovered or even looked for, prior to said rigging survey.

The other thing which really needs a multihull expert to evaluate, is the supporting structure(s) for the mast, as well as other rigging structures. Such as the crossbeam(s), & it's rigging components. Given that it's a highly loaded, critical piece of both the rig's, & boat's structure.

Uncivilized, care to share your newfound wisdom on masts and rigging?

Little tidbits that may help us all be better prepared?

You wrote the teaser, now please share!

Thanks.

Re: Catamaran Surveyor in Florida

Hi,
This is my first post on CF so excuse me if I'm off target here please. My wife and I are looking for a surveyor for the potential first purchase of a catamaran. The boat is located on the northern end of the Atlantic coast of Florida. Can anyone suggest a good surveyor in that region? Any help or advice will be appreciated.

Re: Catamaran Surveyor in Florida

+1 on Jonathan Sands. He did a very thorough job for us including going up the mast and engine oil analysis for a pre-purchase survey. No surveyor will catch everything, but he caught a couple of major items that we would have missed. I might add that there is no substitute for taking a close look yourself and spending some time alone on the boat.

Cheers,

Jonathan Sands also surveyed my PowerCat, which I bought in Ft Lauderdale. He was great.

Re: Catamaran Surveyor in Florida

John Boy, just had a survey on a Leopard Cat few days ago in FLA. Highly recommend Brian Stetler of Stetler Marine Surveys in Jupiter. Very thorough, very knowledgeable. Extremely satisfied with his survey.
