I finally found out what the name (Panga) on my boat means!!

Panga is the name of my boat when I got her.

At first I had plans to hold a renaming ceremony. And change the name.

But after finding out about this. I am going to keep the name. I too think it's a pretty cool (good) name for that boat.

Panga is the common South African name for Pterogymnus laniarius, a small ocean-dwelling fish, native to the south-east Atlantic Ocean and south-west Indian Ocean. They are cold-blooded with white flesh. Their scales are generally pink in color with whitish underbelly and blue-green stripes running laterally along its sides.

Over the course of its life, a panga will undergo periodic sex-changes with as much as 30% of the population being hermaphroditic at a time. Despite the presence of both sex organs, it is thought unlikely that both are simultaneously active. Panga are slow to reach sexual maturity, with a minimum population doubling time of 4.5-14 years.

In other countries the name panga may refer to a different species. In Poland, Indonesia and Spain, panga refers to Megalaspis cordyla, and in Kenya it refers to Trichiurus lepturus.

Panga is also a vessel (boat) used in central america for commercial fishing.

Some tropical countries have a name for the blow of a machete; the Spanish machetazo is sometimes used in English. In Trinidad and Tobago, to hit someone with the flat of the blade is termed planass.

The modern machete is very similar to some forms of the medieval falchion (a type of sword), differing mainly in the lack of a guard and a simpler hilt.

The Swahili "panga" is a variant used in East Africa, with a broader blade and a squared off tip.

K, Don't change it. That is a great name for a boat. Even the morphing fish idea. After all, any vessel can be a lady one minute and a bastard the next
I would go with the whole theme with the blue green stripes (maybe not the pink sides) but the rest is OK.

My mother was telling me last year, that our country was short on bees. And we had to import bees from overseas? Do you know anything about that story? I'm just curious, it falls into a theory of mine!!
