Re: Can't take much more of this global warming

The US may be experiencing some unusually cold "weather" but 2013 was t the hottest year on record for Australia.

Re: Can't take much more of this global warming

The correct term is climate change , not global warming anyway

All I know is the ice on the inside of my windows is providing an extra layer of insulation against the dreaded global warming. Brrr.

Re: Can't take much more of this global warming

I hope all of you take notice that all of this cold air is coming from Canada! Clearly they don't want it and are sending it south. I am sure that if the US would approve that pipeline all this aggressive coldness would stop. Who can imagine what they are up to up there. ( As I sit warming my butt in front of my Canadian wood stove.)

It comes with the tarsands. No extra charge. You're welcome.

Today its -22 C (-4 F) here in Toronto, at Pearson Airport, with enough of a breeze to make it a frostbite risk. They suspended airport operations (no landings no takeoffs) til 9 AM, cos it was "too cold for outdoor operations"...

(The poor dears. Where I grew up, we'd still have to go to school in -30 C weather. And imagine if Winnipeg's airport closed every time it dipped below -20 C, right DeepFrz ? )

But, by the end of the week, it will be above 0 C for about 3 or 4 days, with rain. Then, that will all freeze.

-sigh- only 15 weeks to spring launch. At least the Toronto Boat show is on next week.

Bob

Please do not propagate this myth.

Site like c3headlines quote-mine comments in a manner that completely misrepresents the original intent.

I have both that site and the original interview.

Both are acceptable. GW is a subset of CC.

Re: Can't take much more of this global warming

"November's worldwide average was 1.40°F (0.78°C) higher than the 20th-century global average temperature of 55.2°F (12.9°C). It was the sixth warmest of any month since record-keeping began in 1880, marking the 345th consecutive month—more than 28 years—that temperatures were above the 20th century's average."

Global Temperature for November Was Hottest on Record

UAH data shows December as warmer than November.

Re: Can't take much more of this global warming

It's warmed up to balmy -28 Celsius right now (up from -35 C over night). That -18 Fahrenheit to -31F for my US friends. That's real temperature. With wind chill we're dipping below -50C (-58F). Luckily we also have a couple of meters of snow, so at least we can get out and enjoy the winter, unlike the poor folks down in southern Ontario where snow turns to slush and crap all too quickly.

BTW, I've been thinking about living aboard in Lake Ontario next winter as we begin our extended cruise (getting to L. Ont. the first year). This winter has me re-thinking this idea .

Here's a view looking out my front door with our snowshoe trail. We're 30 meters from Lake Superior's shore. The distant steam is open water.

Re: Can't take much more of this global warming

Yesterdays high was -11 with -50 windchill with two feet of snow in the last 7 days. Today its warming up to +7. Temp in my salon hit 38 for a low at 5:00am this morning and is currently settling in at 40.1. Thankfully its sunny so I should get some greenhouse effect today

Climate change? An ignorant label. The climate has been changing since the world began. Saying climate change is a phrase similar to sunrise. Shall we say that we are affecting sunrise? The ignorance of the masses is astounding.

http://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/fea...her_name.html:

"The first decisive National Academy of Science study of carbon dioxide's impact on climate, published in 1979, abandoned "inadvertent climate modification." Often called the Charney Report for its chairman, Jule Charney of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, declared: "if carbon dioxide continues to increase, [we find] no reason to doubt that climate changes will result and no reason to believe that these changes will be negligible."

In place of inadvertent climate modification, Charney adopted Broecker's usage. When referring to surface temperature change, Charney used "global warming." When discussing the many other changes that would be induced by increasing carbon dioxide, Charney used "climate change."
